About the race
The Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok (ATMBKK) is the biggest road race in the country, drawing more than 30,000 runners and around 75,000 spectators to the capital each year. It is backed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Sports Authority of Thailand and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, which shows in the organisation: closed roads through the middle of Bangkok, well-stocked aid stations, official pacers and proper medical cover. It is also a genuinely international event. Eliud Kipchoge has served as an Amazing Thailand ambassador and ran the 10 km mass event in 2024 alongside Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand. At the other end of the field there is a 4.5 km family fun run, so the same morning covers everything from a World Athletics-standard marathon to a stroller-friendly jog. For visitors, the appeal is the course. Almost everything you would put on a first-time Bangkok itinerary is on the route, and you see it at 3am with no traffic on it — which is not an experience you can buy any other way.

This is the best running weather Bangkok gets all year, which is exactly why the race sits here. It is still tropical, though — the 02:00 start for the long distances is there for a reason, and the last hour of the marathon is run in daylight.
Getting there
MBK Center — marathon & half marathon start
- directionsBTS National Stadium (W1) has a direct walkway into MBK; Siam station is also a short walk.
- directionsAirport Rail Link to Phayathai, then one BTS stop to National Stadium.
- directionsMany bus routes serve Phayathai Road, including 15, 25, 29, 47, 73, 204 and 501.
- directionsTaxis and ride-hailing are easy to find in Pathumwan at any hour.
The BTS and MRT do not open until around 05:00–06:00, so for a 02:00 start you must plan a taxi or a pre-booked car. Do not assume you can train to the start.
Sanam Luang — 10K & fun run start, and all finishes

- directionsChao Phraya ferry piers Tha Chang and Tha Maharaj are a few minutes away.
- directionsBus routes 503, 32, 2 and 1-80E all pass close by.

- directionsIf you're staying in the Old Town or near Khao San, it's an easy pre-dawn walk.
For the 06:05 and 06:45 starts, public transport is running and is the simplest option.

Practical tips
Register early
The marathon fills first. Entries go through the official event site, with ahotu listed as an official registration partner.
Sort your 2am transport the day before
No BTS, no MRT. Book a car or agree a taxi with your hotel the previous evening rather than standing on Phayathai Road at 01:15.
Train for humid darkness, not cool mornings
It's 25–27°C at the start with no sun. Practise your fuelling and drinking at night runs so nothing is a surprise.
Dress for two races
Light, breathable kit for the dark hours, plus a cap and sunscreen for the final stretch once the sun is up over Rama VIII Bridge.
Bank sightseeing, not time
The old-town section is the whole reason to run this race. Going out hard on Ratchadamnoen and blowing up before the Grand Palace is the classic ATM mistake.
